Labirintos

In Greek mythology, the palace of Knossos on Crete hides a labyrinth built by King Minos. In this labyrinth lived a monster called the Minotaur, which had a human body and a bull’s head. The word labyrinth is derived from the Latin labyrinthus, although its earliest origins are Greek. In this context, it refers to an artificially created space with multiple passages and paths that are confusing and difficult to find the exit. That means it’s almost “impossible” to find it.

In this exhibition, Caique Cunha wants to confuse rather than explain. It puts the viewer ahead of what we call photography, but given today’s almost limitless possibilities of construction and representation, we are confused whether what we see is really what we think we see. This work does not define, does not identify, it only signals, it makes us think about medium and form. Trapped in this maze of images, we must find our way out.

The artist presents works created from photography, print and technical imagery. The field becomes more and more labyrinthine and confusing as it opens up countless new possibilities. He changes means consciously and freely to find a complex poetics. It is interesting that Caique traps us in this artistic trap, even for a moment, but as an artist he is always free in the process of creation. This freedom confuses us even more.

Everyone loves solving puzzles and riddles. The joy of coming to conclusions, solutions and understanding is indescribable. The artist’s invitation is for us to enter this painting maze and find the exit. Calm down, there are several, and the Minotaur is currently friends.
